Dr Shivani Patel is a Sydney based endocrinologist seeing patients at our North Sydney clinic. Shivani practices in all areas of endocrinology with particular interest in all forms of diabetes (including prediabetes, type 1, type 2, gestational, monogenic diabetes), thyroid disorders, obesity, PCOS and women’s health. Dr Patel is committed to providing evidence-based, compassionate care and enjoys working closely with her patients to support long term health and wellbeing. Shivani supports patients across all stages of their diabetes journey.

Dr Shivani Patel consults privately in North Sydney and has admitting rights at St. Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and Conjoint Lecturer at the University of New of South Wales.

Dr Patel completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Western Sydney University, following which she completed her training across various hospitals in Sydney including Westmead and St Vincent’s Hospitals in Sydney.

She completed her PhD in autoantibody negative type 1 diabetes through the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and University of New South Wales. She has a keen interest in atypical forms of diabetes. She is also involved in teaching medical students and training doctors through her Conjoint Lecturer role. She has published her research in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at national diabetes and endocrinology meetings.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her young family, often chasing her two little humans.

Areas of expertise and clinical interest include (but are not limited to):

• Diabetes management – type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, atypical and rare forms of diabetes (including MODY), diabetes complications, insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)

• Women’s endocrine health – polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), irregular periods, menopause, pregnancy-related endocrine concerns

• Obesity and metabolic health – insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, weight management, pre-diabetes, lifestyle and medication-supported weight loss

• Thyroid disorders – hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, post-thyroidectomy hormone management

• General endocrinology – osteoporosis, osteopaenia, pituitary disorders, adrenal disorders
