Dr Shivani Patel

Dr Shivani Patel is a Visiting Endocrinologist at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, a PhD graduate of the University of New South Wales and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, and a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales.

Dr Patel completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Western Sydney University, followed by junior medical and basic physician training at Westmead Hospital. She undertook her specialist Endocrinology training at Campbelltown Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.

She has a strong interest in atypical forms of diabetes and completed her PhD titled “Elucidating the phenotype of autoantibody-negative type 1 diabetes.” Dr Patel is actively involved in teaching medical students and training doctors, has published her research in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented at national diabetes and endocrinology conferences. She is committed to staying up to date with the latest evidence to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

Dr Patel’s commitment to all areas of Endocrinology, including all forms of diabetes (including type 1, type 2, gestational), thyroid disorders, obesity, PCOS and general endocrinology. Her patient-centred approach makes Dr Patel a dedicated, caring Endocrinologist.

• General endocrinology – pituitary disorders, adrenal disorders, metabolic health, PCOS, menopause

• Diabetes management – type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, atypical and rare forms of diabetes, diabetes complications

• Thyroid disorders – hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, thyroid nodules

• Obesity and metabolic health – insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, weight management

• Women’s endocrine health – PCOS, irregular periods, fertility-related endocrine concerns
