You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf
— Jon Kabat-Zin

Living with Diabetes can be exhausting and overwhelming. It’s easy to find it has taken over your life.

You have a whole lot of extra responsibilities you didn’t ask for. It’s hard to find a balance between diabetes care and living your life. It’s all too easy to slip into unhelpful habits and Diabetes Burnout.

Learning mindfullness can help you to be more effective in the way that you approach problems in your life.

Mindfulness can be a very useful tool in managing the demands of diabetes self-care.

It is a way to step back from your usual way of doing things, and make choices that fit best with what you’re hoping to achieve. Redirect energy into living your life.

This 8 week course is based on the extensively researched and effective Mindfullness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), which has been adapted to include common problems experienced by people with diabetes. It combines cognitive therapy with meditative practices & attributes based on the cultivation of mindfullness.

The aim of this course is to ease diabetes burnout by helping participants to step back from unhelpful (and often unnoticed) habits of thinking and behaviour. It involves active learning, and regular practice of mindfullness techniques between the scheduled sessions.

Participants with a Mental Health Treatment Plan can claim a Medicare Rebate for this course.

The groups will be run by our Clinical Psychologist, Sarah Lam, who has a long-standing personal interest in mindfulness, and experience in teaching mindfulness skills to people with diabetes.

Dates: 1st of May 2020 - 19th of June 2020

Sessions will be held every Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm at our North Sydney Rooms.
